Abstract

This study aimed to document, analyze and validate arranged Manobo songs of Agusan del Sur. Using descriptive qualitative research, five songs were selected for musical arrangement. To validate the musicality, historical, cultural significance and thematic value of the song, try out and final phases were conducted in the presence of tribal chieftains, cultural song leaders, and music experts. Final phase (94.32%) posted an increase of 7.06% from the try out phase (87.26%) on all indicators of Musicality, Historical and Cultural Significance of the Manobo songs. Findings revealed that most songs are occupational and cultural. Thematic values are thanksgiving, occupational, family ties, courtship, and nationalism. Arranged songs illustrate musicality, historical, cultural significance and thematic value. It is recommended that other Manobo songs be documented and integrated in the basic education and teacher education curricula.
